Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. All is well here in the Bogle homestead. Christmas Day has come and gone. Christmas Eve was full of family. Almost everyone was here. We enjoyed each child and grandchild. We also missed those who are far away. We tried to talk to everyone, but missed our dear James and his family. I think I may not know how to navigate international calls. Either that or they were not at home. Anyway ,if you were not here, I want you to know that you were talked about....all in a good, full of fond memories sort of way. We had Megan and Reuben and baby Catcher portray the Holy Family, and little cousins were dressed as angels and shepherds at their request. Now we might quiet down a bit, but it is Emma's birthday on New Years Eve, so we are obligated to celebrate. I hope that you all are well and celebrating too!

ALOHA!

Rats! I didn't really mean to pick a picture of myself, but here I am. We had been up to see an active volcano. We are stopped at some big hallow tubes where we had to take off our shoes to finnish our walk or get our shoes wet because of the rain the day before. A lot of people turned around, but dad and I forged on. It was in a rain forest area just below the volcano, and very beautiful. Yesterday we went to the Cultural Center. We enjoyed all of the shows at the villages we visited. Our guide was from Australia. He was the only blond boy at the Center. Today we went to see whales. We walked around Lahaina, Maui today then caught a boat out to watch humpback whales. We saw several.
All of out adventures are fun. but we do get tired. Dad is doing fine. I'm not allowed to comment on food. Miss you all. See you soon

Standing on the Portside

It is Monday morning, about 8:30, I am looking out the window of my stateroom on the port side in Honolulu. I see many ships at dock and across the street right outside I see an abundance of huge hotels. I will try to figure how to post pictures so I can show them to you. It seems that my internet will only work when near enough to an island to get a signal. Just wanted you all to know that we are alive and well. I tried to call several of my children yesterday, but could never catch anyone at the right time. I believe that we are about 4 hours ahead of Az. time. And I am learning to move without a mouse, cause I left mine at home. I will post again later, but for now I need to go.

Timing is Everything vs. Love conquers all

I have heard it said that "Timing is everything". I don't know that to be true. This year Bob and I were to have taken a wonderful road trip through the South to South Carolina to meet some of my distant cousins and see some wonderful family history sites. Four days before we were to have left Bob was taken to the hospital with pneumonia and neurological symtoms that we feared was a stroke. He ended up afews days later having a six and a half hour surgery for colon cancer. He came home eleven days after entering the hospital, and fortunmately has had a remarkable recovery. I had the privalege of staying with him and helping with his care. And no, it was definately not as much fun as a road trip(especially for Bob), it was satisfying to know that I could be of help to my companion of 45 years. timing horrible, but Love conquers all. Last Saturday was our youngest son, John Tyson's wedding. As the groom's parents our largest part was to put on a luncheon for the wedding ceremony guests, about 100 people. Well 3 days before the wedding I ended up in the hospital with a kidney stone too large to pass without a proceedure.. I had the proceedure the next day and went home that evening. And, full of pain medication felt up to anything life could hand me. All I can say is that without the help of my family, there would have been no luncheon. My daughters and my sons and all of their beloveds came together to get everything together. And I am so THANKFUL to you all. Every last teenie weenie one of you were and are Fabulous and Wonderful to have helped so much. Thank you!, Thank ~! Thank you! Everything at the wedding was wonderful from the decorations, to the food, to Shanda's Dad singing for her, to the kids doing the worm, to seeing old friends, to the magician who entertained the children, to the jazz band from Hamilton high . Just sorry that I was only half there. Again timing was bad but Love Conquers all!

terra firma, agricola

I hope I remember those terms correctly. Latin class was a long time ago. I remember how excited I was, even as a teenager, to find that I had something in common with my Dad. We both took Latin as our languages in high school. I was impressed that my dad could still decline a verb and and knew much more Latin vocabulary than I knew. He was in the cotton business. He was a cotton gin manager. He worked with the farmers to help them finance growing their crops, and helped them manage their weed and bug control, before all of that became specialty fields of their own. Terra firma, the solid earth, and agricola, farm, are the words which I knew that my dad remembered from his Latin class. A week or so ago I had the great experience of working with my son, Thomas, to plant a garden. He took care of all the hard part. Tilling the weeds and making the beds with a rototiller and an old farm tractor. He also did a lot of hoeing by hand, and using a miniature blow torch to send stray weeds packing. I mostly did the fun stuff, planting the seeds and seedlings. When one plants a garden, one seems to enjoy watching and waiting until each little plant emerges from the soil to begin its journey toward bearing fruit. Of course you want to share the joy, so each in turn from my husband, through my children and down to my grandchildren have been dragged through the secret gate into my garden to watch this miracle of nature. They have all dutifully oohed and awed over the barely visible spec of green. Thank you all for appreciating not only the young plants, but the time and energy that went into them. Thank you Thomas for all you encouragement and labor . Yea,we have an agricola on the terra firma!

I am so grateful that Heavenly Father ordered the world with day, night, new day order. Today everything seems brighter. It is still cloudy out,but when Bob and I took a walk in the park this morning, it actually did rain. Ok so it was these tiny, tiny little drops and only lasted a bitty bit, but it was wet! And nothing else has really changed, but I feel tons more optimistic, and Ty is coming home for the weekend and that will be cheerful. I went to my teacher's meeting at Sew From The Heart last night and had bad news about a dear co-worker. Everyone who prays please put in a good word for Barb Mix. She is a wonderful lady having brain tumor surgery on Wed. I also saw a lot of dear friends from work there. They always cheer me up. Golly, listen to me sounding so droll. Yuk! I do not always need to be cheered up. But I truly do appreciate cheerful people. I hope that everyone is having a better day today, even if yesterday was Fabulous.

this is truly a Monday. It is overcast, but no rain. I woke up with a tummy ache. And first thing I did this morning was have an argument with my husband. I called it "trying to convince him to have a necessary test". He called it an argument. I spent about an hour trying to get the courage to tell him that, if he wanted the test cancelled, he would have to do it. Then his doctored called for him, and he did cancel. I am bummed. And he refuses to discuss it further. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

Dad is home doing well

Dad has been home from the hospital for 2 weeks now. We have been walking most everyday. He has driven his truck as far as the barber to get a hair cut. We went to part of church last week. He still tires very quickly., but he's getting better. We are just so grateful for the pnumonia so that the doctors went looking. We are also so grateful to all the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph's hospital. They were awesome! We are also grateful for our children who offered what they could to help out. Some were there to visit. Some gave blessings. Some sat with me during the 6 and a half hour surgery. Some were far away and called and offered prayers. Thank you all. All expressions of concern were appreciated. And thanks to Church friends for all their kindnesses. How blessed we are because of you.
